ITINERARY

Our driver will start collecting passengers at 6:30 a.m. from Riu Playa Blanca, Decameron, or Bijao and head to the charming cobblestone streets of Old Quarter Casco Antiguo. Tracing its history to 1673 and filled with splendid colonial architecture, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is today one of Panama City’s liveliest districts. There are local and indigenous arts and crafts at Casco Antiguo. (Here you will meet the bilingual guide.)

After this, we will drive around the famous Cerro Ancon inside the former U.S. Canal Zone and out to the islands along the Amador Causeway for the best view of Panama’s skyline, with a stop at the colorful PANAMA sign. Most days, we do a tour of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute’s Punta Culebra Nature Center (closed Mondays, Tuesdays, and holidays) where you can have close encounters with sea turtles, sloths, iguanas, tropical birds, tropical fishes. It is a very important location historically. If the site is closed, we can still see it from the outside. Look in, explain the history, and have a look for sloth!

Our guide will suggest places where you can have lunch in the city and taste the amazing panamanian food. (Lunch is not included.)

Saving the best part for last, we will head to the Panama Canal Visitors’ Center and IMAX 3D movie at Miraflores Locks, where ships can be seen transiting the waterway (depending on the Canal schedule). Please bring US cash or a credit card to pay your entrance fee, which is USD 17.22 per adult and USD 7.22 per child (6–12 years old).

Around 3:45 pm, we will head back to the resort, so you may arrive around 6:15 pm, depending on traffic.

IMPORTANT: At the Miraflores Visitor Center there is a major renovation going on so the line to buy the ticket may last 15 minutes or more. There is an Imax 3D movie that is also included in the Canal tickets you buy.
