From RIU Playa Blanca - Embera Indigenous Tribe
This tour from RIU Playa Blanca or nearby resorts is perfect for travelers seeking a full-day cultural adventure in Panama. In 8 unforgettable hours, enjoy a scenic drive and a peaceful canoe ride along the Chagres River to reach an authentic Embera village deep in the rainforest, where you’ll experience their traditions, music, and way of life up close.
Embark on an unforgettable cultural journey with our private Emberá tour, starting with an 8:30 AM pickup from Riu Playa Blanca or Decameron and Our Spanish-speaking driver will take you to the city, where you will meet your guide.
This full-day adventure takes you deep into Panama’s lush rainforest, where you’ll connect with one of the country’s most fascinating indigenous communities. After a scenic drive through the countryside, you’ll arrive at the river dock and board a traditional handcrafted Emberá canoe powered by a small motor. Glide upriver for about 20–25 minutes through beautiful jungle scenery—keep your eyes open for tropical birds and turtles along the way.
Once you arrive at the Embera village, you’ll receive a warm welcome from the community. During your visit, the Emberá people will share their customs, history, and deep knowledge of medicinal plants. You'll also get to explore their intricate artisan crafts, many of which are available for purchase as meaningful souvenirs. A delicious traditional lunch will be served, featuring freshly caught fish and crispy fried plantains.
After lunch, enjoy a colorful cultural presentation of music and traditional dance, and if you like, you can even receive a temporary body painting using natural jagua fruit ink, a tradition passed down through generations. You’ll have ample time to engage with the community, explore their way of life, and soak in the peaceful surroundings before heading back by canoe to the dock.
Please note, for safety reasons, we do not visit the small waterfall often included in other tours. This adjustment allows us to offer a safer and more accessible experience for travelers of all ages and physical conditions. Following your visit, you’ll begin the relaxing drive back to Riu Playa Blanca, bringing with you unforgettable memories of Panama’s rich cultural heritage.
